Silicea (12) - Hair • Skin • Nails

October 12, 2026Katie Fuchs

Silicea is associated with strength, structure, healthy connective tissue and the body’s ability to fully complete the healing process.

It is a trace mineral found throughout the body and is especially important for collagen production, connective tissue integrity, and the health of the skin, hair, nails, bones, teeth and ligaments. It acts as one of the body’s foundational building blocks, helping tissues maintain both strength and resilience.

While many people think of Silicea for brittle nails, thinning hair, or slow-growing hair, it is also one of the most recognized cell salts for slow recovery, recurring infections, retained splinters, and stubborn issues that seem reluctant to fully resolve. Thick yellow mucus, recurring styes, lingering congestion, and skin concerns that heal slowly are classic examples.

Silicea is thought of as the “finishing” salt. It helps the body clear what doesn’t belong, strengthen what has become weak, and support the final stages of repair when healing appears delayed or incomplete.

Silicea frequently works alongside:

Calc Fluor — elasticity and firmness
Calc Phos — rebuilding and nutritive strength
Nat Phos (10) — acid balance (traditionally used alongside Silicea)
Ferrum Phos (4) and Kali Mur (5) — swollen glands and early stages

Together these salts support structural integrity and replenishment, especially during growth.

Silicea in Children

This is a great salt for children. Silicea patterns may appear as fine-boned or slight build, slower recovery after illness, preference for warmth, delicate skin or hair, or sensitivity that increases with fatigue.

Some children in this pattern seem to build slowly but steadily when given Silicea. When supported, stamina should improve and tissues strengthen over time.

• Fine-boned, with thin arms and legs
• Sweaty head during sleep
• Sweaty, smelly feet
• Shy or hesitant, but determined
• Catches colds easily
• Slow-healing scrapes or splinters
• Picky about hot or cooked foods
• Sensitive to noise and light

Why Silica Matters

Silica is an important structural mineral found throughout the body. It is especially useful in connective tissue, skin, hair, nails, bones and teeth which all depend on the availability of silicea and other key minerals. The body is constantly rebuilding and repairing itself.
